I don't remember when's the last time I splurged and treated myself some new clothes. I might have gotten too comfortable in my loungewear and PJs during the pandemic that I almost forgot that I love dressing up and styling outfits. I needed some retail therapy. So I went on SheIn and started browsing. I've been a long time fan of SheIn for their affordable pricing and their fit requires no alternations on me. My order was shipped out quickly and took a little longer than 2 weeks to arrive at my doorstep. I love all the items I got so I wanted to share my thoughts from the first try-on here! 

White Snakeskin Flat Mules

I had my eyes on a pair of white slip-on mules for so long. I already owned a brown pair from Sam Edelman and they are my go-to on lazy days so I want another white pair to match my outfits. I didn’t want to pay too much for something that I don’t get to wear everyday. So these SheIn pair caught my eyes. I usually wear size 7 or 38. But after reading the reviews on the site, I sized up. They are half a size more loose than my liking. And when I compare them with my Sam Edelman (which is a size 7), the SheIn pair is actually shorter but the width is wider. The shoes are well made and good quality, almost as good as my Sam Edelman mules. The material on the other hand is synthetic and not real leather so it does feel harder and I can imagine it’d crease overtime. The insole is padded so it’s very comfortable to walk in them.

Brown Knee-High Boots

Although these aren’t meant for Spring but they were on sale for $25! So I snagged them before my size were sold out. I’ve always wanted a pair of brown knee-highs to go with some earthy tones outfit. These are perfect and fit true to size. I bought my normal size 7 and they were comfortable. The heels are a good height to walk in. They make my legs look like a mile long as well. I especially like the straps at the back so I can tie to secure the boots from sliding down while walking.

Dalmatian Print Split Thigh Skirt

I’m a sucker for animal prints and I cannot not include this in my collection. I’m 5’4 and the skirt is down to my mid-calves even though the waistline sits high. The skirt is A-line and the side slit just opens mid way of my thigh. It’s roomy and flowy. The skirt is not lined but also not see-through. I do find that the skirt does shift position and rotates at my waist from time to time but for the price, it’s worth it.

Floral Print Tie Back Cut-out Dress

I’m in love with this dress. The dress requires some steaming prior to first wear as it is made from cotton. I love the big puff sleeves that add more drama to the look. The open tie back is sexy with straps that wrap around the waist at the front. I got the size XS (I’m usually a size small) and feel that the dress is very forgiving. I can’t wait to wear this dress at a wedding with a pair of strapped heels.

Floral Tie Front Cutout Ruffle Hem Dress

This is another dress that I fell in love at first sight. I wasn’t sure if I could pull this off after having a baby but for $19 I couldn’t give myself a good reason to pass on this dress. The print is super cute and the material is stretchy. I sized up for this dress as I was worried that it’d be tight and short on me. And it fits just right with a size medium (I’m usually size small and have bigger hips), not tight at all and at a good length. The tie front is not as exposed as I thought and is easily adjustable with a looser or tighter tie knot. I like to wear with the puff sleeves but also love that the sleeves can be pulled down to become an off-shoulders dress. My husband loves this dress on me. So, bonus points there. 

Lace Trim Satin Cami Top & Shorts PJ set

Not gonna lie, but I love satin and silky materials for my PJs. This set looks cute and sexy. The shorts are on the shorter side for me and barely covered my bum. I do find the materials to be thin and simply hemmed. But for $8, you do get what you paid for.

Plain Baseball Cap

I just needed a basic white baseball cap to go with my casual fit. And this does the job. It’s a rougher cotton material and holds the shape well. It has a velcro strap at the back and I couldn’t ask for more for $4.

Striped V-Neck Curved Hem T-shirt Dress

As a mom, sometimes I just want to put on something and get out of the door fast. This t-shirt dress is great for that effortless casual look. I got a size M as I wanted it to be more loose. The cut is straight with a slight stretch. I was actually expecting this to be a jersey cotton material but instead it was made from polyester. It is still very lightweight and comfortable for summertime without being see-through. This will go really cute with my plain baseball cap and white sneakers.

SheGlam Straight Velvet Lipstick - Beach Babe

I'm a sucker for lipsticks and this little velvet lipstick caught my eyes. I compared this with my Charlotte Tribury pillow talk lipstick to give you a comparison and thought the colours are pretty similar. It feels velvety without being too dry on my lips. It is a matte lipstick and it is a pigmented rosy colour that is slightly darker than my Pillow Talk on me. The packaging is nice and looks like it's from a luxury brand.

SheGlam Expert Creamy Eyeliner - Brown

Spring is all about lightweight and natural make up. I bought this creamy eyeliner in brown when it was on a buy one get one sale. Despite the great deal price, the eyeliner is very creamy and super easy to apply. The colour brown is pigmented but still look very natural. Comparing it with my liquid eyeliner, this creamy eyeliner gives a softer look and do not smudge after a full day wear. 

SHEGLAM Butter Up Eyeshadow Stick-FROST BOSS

Besides the brown eyeliner, I also got myself this butter up eyeshadow in frost boss colour to highlight my eyes. The colour is light and shimmery. Easy to blend and glides smoothly on my skin. I like to apply it to the corner of my eyes and outline my under eye to make them look bigger. 

Basic Solid Tank Top

Basic tanks are definitely worth an investment. These solid tank tops are comfortable and cropped at a flattering length. The neckline is especially cute and accentuate my collarbones even more. I bought both black and white tops.

Rib-Knit Crop Tank Top

This tank top is similar to the basic solid tank top above except it is more fitted and less forgiving. 

2 Pack Lace-up front self adhesive bra set

These adhesive bra set is a must for those backless dresses in Spring and Summer! I love these set as it comes with both black and nude colours. The adhesive is strong but does not irritate my skin. The wing design not only looks cute but it also helps grab your side boobs. The tie front allows you to create cleavage and give out that extra oomph.

With the lockdown in Ontario, I really miss going into the malls to shop. Until things are opened up again, I could only shop online. Browsing on Amazon has quickly become my way to decompress so I’m thrilled to share with you my latest Amazon finds!

I came across Iffei when I was searching for something that I could twin with Justice. And, they had kindly offered to send our entire family matching swimwear to wear this season! They've got so many cute prints and are not limited to bathing suits but holiday pajamas as well. If you didn't know, I'm a sucker for prints. So it took me a long time to decide on the set for our family. We were so lucky to have great, warm weather the past few days so our family got to head to the beach early before the summer break and rocked our matching family swimwear! 

I ended up picking this pink swimwear set with palm leaves for our family. The quality was fantastic, especially for the price you're getting! I’m usually a size small but went with a size Medium. I wasn’t sure if I could fit in the small after pregnancy. Both top and bottom felt true to size. I did find the padded bra top to be on a looser fit, however, because of the off shoulders design. But, a way to resolve this was to scrunch up the extra material from the bra top and secured it with a safety pin. The ruffles would hide the safety pin so nobody would see it. The bottom was high waisted which worked well for me to cover up my post-partum belly. There were 2 side openings at the waistline and I did find that help create an illusion of a thinner waist.

Justice is currently 14 months so I picked size 12-18m for his trunks. They fit him perfectly and would last him this summer season. Will's about 6 ft tall and took the large-sized trunks.

Buying a dress is a process. It requires some thought. You also have to really get to know your own body to find the perfect dress. That is because one dress can look completely different on two different types of bodies. Finding the right fit is not just about choosing the correct dress size. Style plays a major role.

What a Dress Length Says About You

Length is a vital part of the choice of which dress to buy. The dress length you choose can say a lot about you. For example, a short dress can say “I feel flirtatious today.” A longer dress might give off a more professional message. A shorter dress might also help you express confidence in your lower body and accentuate your legs. A longer dress with a tight bodice, on the other hand, accentuates your upper body.

Dress Lengths You Can Pick From

Dresses do not simply come in short or long styles. You can choose from mini or maxi. There are also several in between sizes. For instance, you might buy a cocktail dress that ends around your knees or try a longer dress.  Not every dress is a club-going mini skirt or a floor-touching ball gown. Finding the length you need for the occasion and for your body is a major part of the dress buying battle.

In some cases, there are also variations within categories. For example, by definition a midi dress ends above your ankle. It also hangs at least below your knee. However, that leaves a lot of lower leg to play with. By selecting a midi dress that hangs a little bit higher or lower than exactly halfway down your lower leg, you can adjust your final appearance.

Choosing a Dress for Your Figure

Not everyone's figure is the same, obviously. Every person is an individual. However, in the dress world there are figure categories. One is hourglass. If you have an hourglass figure, a dress with a cinched waist and a tight bodice is a great choice to help you show it off. If your body is more of a pear shape, opt for dresses with flowing skirts to make your features appear more proportional. Also, select dresses that have more detailed bodice work or otherwise draw the eye toward your upper body.

There are several other body types you could potentially have. For instance, you might be an athlete with wide shoulders and a slender waist. The point is, look at your body shape and how a dress can compliment it. Your body type may lend itself well to a simple, straightforward shift dress or a frilled or otherwise embellished gown. Once you know, you can work with your body instead of against it.

Another Aspect of Your Body Type You Can Play With

Your general body shape is not easy to change, but your height is an aspect you can actually play with easily. It is not possible to change how tall you really are, but you can make yourself appear the height you want. For example, an asymmetrical dress gives the illusion of more height most of the time. So does a dress with some sort of waist sash. Footwear also changes how tall or short you appear while wearing any dress, so do not limit your dress choices in your mind just because you are on the short or tall side.

The best advice about dress shopping is to take your time. Make sure you like the length, fabric, and general style. Consider everything from budget to washing instructions. Above all, make sure the dress you pick will look good on your body type and that you will feel comfortable wearing it. I know it can be hard sometimes to feel pretty when the body is getting bigger by the hour. It also doesn’t help when your favourite pair of jeans no longer fit you. Although I don’t consider myself an expert, I can share a few tips on how to look stylish during this 10-month journey.

When I first started my pregnancy, I knew I didn't want to spend a lot of money on maternity clothing. To be honest, I'm a bit turned off by maternity clothes out there in the market. They either scream “I’m preggo!” in people’s faces or they just look very unflattering on the body. Companies need to come up with better maternity styles for mommies-to-be and help them feel pretty! Something that accentuates the new curves and is comfortable to wear.

So I took a look in my closet and see if there were items that I could still wear throughout the trimesters. Some of my favourite and go-to items are:

• Long Sweater Dress
• Bodycon Dress
• Knitted Pencil Skirt
• Pleated skirt 
• Paper bag pants
• Peplum Tops
• Loose fit blouse
• Swing dress

As my waistline got a bit out of hand and my jeans no longer fit, I invested in my first pair of maternity skinny jeans and they are a godsend! They are super stretchy with a cotton belly band attached at the waistline to cover the belly. If my tops are shorter or crop-fitted, I don’t need to worry about exposing my belly at all. I also borrowed another pair from my friend to wear interchangeably during the cold winter days. Paper bag pants are my go-to for office wear. They are forgiving for the bump and you can easily adjust the waist with the belt throughout your trimesters.

Tips to look stylish and cute while pregnant: 

Avoid Too Many Layers

It’s probably not a good idea to look an extra few pounds during this time. Too much layering can make yourself look chunkier than normal. Plus, when you’re expecting, you become a human incubator and can feel extremely warm indoor. So, I’d suggest keeping your layers to the minimum.

Accentuate With a Fitted Silhouette

If you’re comfortable in showing off your new curves, I’d recommend a fitted silhouette. It not only emphasizes your femininity, but it actually makes you look chicer and slimmer.

Peplum to Hide the Bump

In my early pregnancy days when I was not ready to share the news, I’d wear a lot of peplum tops to hide my bump away. Peplums not only camouflage the bump, they also look cute when paired with maternity jeans. Even now that I’m in my third trimester, my peplums still fit me because they are so roomy at the waistline to accommodate my bump.

To emphasize a waistline, I like to add a belt to create a better proportion. The waistline sits higher when you’re expecting but by doing so, it helps to create an illusion of long, slender legs.

Tie Knot Cardigan for Style

A simple cardigan with a tie knot that sits below the chest is another great way to highlight your waistline to create a slimline shape.

Accessorize

Many people underestimate how much accessorizing can do to elevate a look. Accessories work wonders on any plain outfits. Simply put on a piece of necklace or a pair of earrings and they can instantly make you look more sophisticated with that baby bump.

Chunky Heel to Add Height

It’s usually advised against wearing heels during your pregnancy but sometimes you just want that added height to make you look more stylish. My preferred method is to go with chunky heels or block heels. They are easier to balance in and give you some style for your feet to go with the rest of the outfit.

Monotone Chic

Dressing in all the same shade is so easy to do on days where you just don’t have time to colour coordinate your outfit. Simply just wear your top, bottom and shoes in the same colour (or in different shades of the same colour) and you’d look chic instantly.

Thigh-high boots are worth the investments when you’re carrying during Fall and Winter. They are so stylish and keep your legs warm. Choose a pair that comes with fleece lining inside if you’re afraid of the cold.
