You've probably started counting down the days until Christmas and finishing up the holiday shopping. But you can't really spend the holidays without making something adorable for your family and friends, right? Every year, I tried to make something special for the holidays. And today, I'm sharing this tutorial on how to make these adorable looking Rudolph Reindeer Christmas cake pops! If you have a Christmas party or pot luck coming up, these are great to make ahead of time. And plus, both kids and adults would love them too! I like to wrap these with a small cellophane bag so the kiddos can take them home and eat them later.

For the base, I used a classic vanilla recipe and dipped the pops in S'mores candy melt. The S'mores flavour tasted great and gave a little more than the typical chocolate. Plus, it's also brown in colour which is just what I needed for the reindeers.

Tis' the Season to Make Gingerbread Cookies

Valentine's day is fast approaching! While a memorable Valentine's day might take some effort and time to prepare, it doesn't have to be that way. For those of you who are looking for a quick and easy Valentine's day dessert, I'm sharing my favourite cake decoration idea that can make any cake looks fancy without having to do a lot of work today! And what's even better is that this decorating method doesn't involve making your own fondant. All you need is your favourite cake recipe and some Pocky sticks on hand. Sounds pretty simple, right? Let's get started.

What are Pocky sticks?

Pocky sticks are one of the top-selling products from Glico. They are crispy biscuit sticks covered with flavoured cream. The most popular flavour being the chocolate and strawberry cream. I love them as snacks as a kid. And even today, I still bring them with me when I travel.

What You'll Need

• Strawberry Pocky (the amount varies depending on the size of your cake. For my cake, I used 2 boxes)
• 1 box of fresh strawberries
• Pink ribbon

Instructions

1. Pick your favourite cake recipe and make a cake out of it. I made this easy no-bake cheesecake following the recipe here. Next time, I'd stack another cake on top so it will look better and taller. 
2. Arrange the strawberry Pocky sticks vertically and stick them around the edge of the cake.
3. Cut up the strawberries into slices. The pattern and colour of the strawberries resemble rose petals so I arranged them in layers on the top of the cake. Alternatively, you could also put strawberries in whole on the cake.
4. Tie the ribbon around the cake into a bow
5. And you're done!

Have a happy Valentine's Day!

I admit that sometimes I have no self control when I see things on sale. I tend to buy things on impulse even if I don't really have a need for them. This is true again, when I got these caramel apple candy melts by Wilton. I still have a few bag of candy melts sitting at home. But knowing that this flavour is a limited edition and on sale at Michael's, I just could not resist and I got a bag of these to try.

Because they are in this light yellowish green colour (which is super pretty), I wanted to make something cute out of them like these cake pops. Stretching out my imagination a bit, I started to think the kind of cartoon characters that are green, round and easy to make.

Ah ha! The teenage mutant ninja turtles!

I dyed my homemade marshmallow fondant with food colouring and rolled them out into strips for the eye masks. I used an edible marker to draw their mouths and that was it! SUPER EASY!

These look so adorable just by adding a little bit of creativity. I ended up giving these to my nephews and nieces. They were beyond excited and actually didn't want to eat them!

Halloween is just a few weeks away! Besides dressing up for Halloween (see my DIY costumes here), I like to dress up my baked goods for this festivity too. And today, I'll show you simple ways to decorate cake pops for Halloween.

Simple Cake Pops Ideas for Halloween

Ghostly Cake Pops

These ghostly cake pops are super easy to make! All you need to do is roll out a piece of white fondant (I like to make my own using marshmallows. They are tastier!) into a thin sheet. Cut out round shapes using a pizza cutter. Wrap each fondant sheet to the cake pop after you dip the cake pops into the candy melts. Then draw little faces using edible markers. They are so adorable and halloween-y.  I actually had a lot of fun making these.

Peek-a-Boo Cake Pops 

If you're a fan of Super Mario Bros. then this little guy shouldn't be a stranger to you. I love Mr. Boo and its shape is perfect to translate into a cake pop! Simply dip cake pops into white candy melt for the body. Use white fondant to make its hands and glue it in place with candy melt. Dye white fondant with red food colouring for its mouth and tongue and finish off by drawing its eyes with black edible marker. 

Spider and Cobweb cake pops

Instead of using white candy melt, I used chocolate candy melts for the body. And dip pretzels into the candy melt for the spidey legs. Attach the legs with candy melts. Dye white fondant with green food colouring for its eyes. For the cobweb, I printed a picture of the web I found online with my printer. Then layer over a sheet of parchment paper on top. I put white candy melt into a piping bag and traced over the picture of the cobweb. Carefully lift it up once it's dried and attached to the lollipop stick with candy melt. 

Bat Cake Pops

I made the bat wings with brown dyed fondant and cut out the shape using a pair of scissors. Use edible marker to draw a mouth and dot on the fondant eyes. And fangs with white fondant.

Mummified Cake Pops

This cake pop involves more work than others, only because you'd need to cut out strands of white fondant and attach them piece by piece on the cake pop before the candy melt coating dries up. Fill in a part of the white fondant with black edible marker and attach green fondant as eyes.

{Candy Crush Birthday Cake}

I was planning to retire from making cakes after the hectic process and stressful experience of attempting a 3D sailboat cake for a baby shower party (post to come). Then, 4 days just before my relaxation getaway trip to Cuba, I got a request asking me to make a chocolate birthday cake for his girlfriend who is addicted to playing the popular game Candy Crush. I thought it's a very cute idea to transfer a game idea onto a cake. I get really excited to anything game inspired. It's so much fun and stimulate my creative juices (My first game inspired project was an edible Angry Bird Cake Topper). I was so tempted by the idea because Candy Crush is so popular these days. So, I convinced myself to take on this challenge.

Easter is almost here! What’s better than celebrating this special day with some cute and delicious Easter bunny cake pops?

This was my first pistachio cake. The process was quite hectic and dramatic, all thanks to my pretty darn old oven of more than 20 years. If my oven would stop adjusting temperature on its own, then I'd enjoy all my baking sessions a whole lot more. I just can't wait to get a new home so I can enjoy all those shiny brand new appliances that come with the house. Well, until then, I gotta stick with this antique. I used the recipe from Kittencalskitchen. It was simple and great for procrastinator like me. Besides, I had to make a birthday card and plan a full day birthday celebration for the bf. The recipe calls for pudding mix to create the pistachio flavour. I've done similar recipe for my strawberry cookies using jello mix before. So, I'm confident that this recipe will turn out just as what it's called, awesome.

Here are my steps during the process:

The pistachio pudding mix already has pistachio bits in them. It is really convenient if you don't want to add in extra walnuts or pistachios into the cake. However, the frosting also uses the same pudding mix so it is necessary to make the fondant thicker to cover all the lumps.

 

I wanted to make a Captain America cake for my boyfriend's birthday because he is a superhero fan. Of all superheros, I wanted to find one that relates to him the most so I chose Captain America. It's not because he particularly likes the character or movie. It's solely because Captain America has a letter A on his helmet and my boyfriend's name starts with an A as well. Haha.

I made the white and skintone fondant out of marshmallows. The blue and the red fondants are actually store bought. I think it will take me forever to knead my fondants into such intense red and blue colour. Plus, most people don't eat the decorations anyway. I love how the cake turned out. Being a perfectionist, I spent too much time fine tuning every single details to make it look perfect. Once I'm started, I couldn't stop and I ended up sleeping at 4 am. I looked like a zombie on his actual birthday. How fabulous.

Well, at least it was all worth it. My boyfriend was very surprised about everything I've planned for him especially the cake. He told me he was actually looking at that picture I took with Captain America earlier the week. Coincidence or simply psychic?

A funny shot of the cake at the surprise party. We spent a good while figuring out where is the best spot to place the candle. Either between his two fingers like he is holding a cigarette or on his face like he is actually smoking with his nose (which is not even there). I am glad that everything turned out perfectly and everyone enjoyed the cake.

Now, I can get my beauty sleep.
