These "year in review" posts have become my favourite entries on the blog. I love that they allow me to reflect back on my accomplishments, milestones and blessings throughout the year. These reflections are so important, not just for personal growth and awareness, but also for my mental health. Every time I finish one of these entries, I'm amazed at how much I actually accomplished despite feeling the opposite the entire year. They make me feel good about myself and not lose sight of the things I have earned.

The greatest achievement and milestone of this year is that we bought a new house. And with that, we also sold our first home after 7 years of living in it. It was a bittersweet moment to say goodbye to our home, our neighbours and friends we met in this neighbourhood. Lots of fond memories and firsts in this little townhouse. I still remember vividly when we brought Justice home, how Will surprised me with a proposal, the barbecues we had at our backyard, and all the cozy nights chilling as a family of 3. It's time to move on and I'm looking forward to making our new house a home after renovations.

The renos have started almost immediately after we closed our house. We'll be replacing the flooring, getting a custom-built kitchen and also redoing our main ensuite bathroom. All to be completed in the New Year by end of January (fingers crossed!). This is my second major renovation (the first one was the one I helped with at my parent's, you can read about it, here) and I'm really excited about it. I'll be sure to share all the details as the journey goes, follow along on my IG stories or #TingsRenoThings.

I don't remember when's the last time I splurged and treated myself some new clothes. I might have gotten too comfortable in my loungewear and PJs during the pandemic that I almost forgot that I love dressing up and styling outfits. I needed some retail therapy. So I went on SheIn and started browsing. I've been a long time fan of SheIn for their affordable pricing and their fit requires no alternations on me. My order was shipped out quickly and took a little longer than 2 weeks to arrive at my doorstep. I love all the items I got so I wanted to share my thoughts from the first try-on here! 

White Snakeskin Flat Mules

I had my eyes on a pair of white slip-on mules for so long. I already owned a brown pair from Sam Edelman and they are my go-to on lazy days so I want another white pair to match my outfits. I didn’t want to pay too much for something that I don’t get to wear everyday. So these SheIn pair caught my eyes. I usually wear size 7 or 38. But after reading the reviews on the site, I sized up. They are half a size more loose than my liking. And when I compare them with my Sam Edelman (which is a size 7), the SheIn pair is actually shorter but the width is wider. The shoes are well made and good quality, almost as good as my Sam Edelman mules. The material on the other hand is synthetic and not real leather so it does feel harder and I can imagine it’d crease overtime. The insole is padded so it’s very comfortable to walk in them.

Brown Knee-High Boots

Although these aren’t meant for Spring but they were on sale for $25! So I snagged them before my size were sold out. I’ve always wanted a pair of brown knee-highs to go with some earthy tones outfit. These are perfect and fit true to size. I bought my normal size 7 and they were comfortable. The heels are a good height to walk in. They make my legs look like a mile long as well. I especially like the straps at the back so I can tie to secure the boots from sliding down while walking.

Dalmatian Print Split Thigh Skirt

I’m a sucker for animal prints and I cannot not include this in my collection. I’m 5’4 and the skirt is down to my mid-calves even though the waistline sits high. The skirt is A-line and the side slit just opens mid way of my thigh. It’s roomy and flowy. The skirt is not lined but also not see-through. I do find that the skirt does shift position and rotates at my waist from time to time but for the price, it’s worth it.

Floral Print Tie Back Cut-out Dress

I’m in love with this dress. The dress requires some steaming prior to first wear as it is made from cotton. I love the big puff sleeves that add more drama to the look. The open tie back is sexy with straps that wrap around the waist at the front. I got the size XS (I’m usually a size small) and feel that the dress is very forgiving. I can’t wait to wear this dress at a wedding with a pair of strapped heels.

Floral Tie Front Cutout Ruffle Hem Dress

This is another dress that I fell in love at first sight. I wasn’t sure if I could pull this off after having a baby but for $19 I couldn’t give myself a good reason to pass on this dress. The print is super cute and the material is stretchy. I sized up for this dress as I was worried that it’d be tight and short on me. And it fits just right with a size medium (I’m usually size small and have bigger hips), not tight at all and at a good length. The tie front is not as exposed as I thought and is easily adjustable with a looser or tighter tie knot. I like to wear with the puff sleeves but also love that the sleeves can be pulled down to become an off-shoulders dress. My husband loves this dress on me. So, bonus points there. 

Lace Trim Satin Cami Top & Shorts PJ set

Not gonna lie, but I love satin and silky materials for my PJs. This set looks cute and sexy. The shorts are on the shorter side for me and barely covered my bum. I do find the materials to be thin and simply hemmed. But for $8, you do get what you paid for.

Plain Baseball Cap

I just needed a basic white baseball cap to go with my casual fit. And this does the job. It’s a rougher cotton material and holds the shape well. It has a velcro strap at the back and I couldn’t ask for more for $4.

Striped V-Neck Curved Hem T-shirt Dress

As a mom, sometimes I just want to put on something and get out of the door fast. This t-shirt dress is great for that effortless casual look. I got a size M as I wanted it to be more loose. The cut is straight with a slight stretch. I was actually expecting this to be a jersey cotton material but instead it was made from polyester. It is still very lightweight and comfortable for summertime without being see-through. This will go really cute with my plain baseball cap and white sneakers.

SheGlam Straight Velvet Lipstick - Beach Babe

I'm a sucker for lipsticks and this little velvet lipstick caught my eyes. I compared this with my Charlotte Tribury pillow talk lipstick to give you a comparison and thought the colours are pretty similar. It feels velvety without being too dry on my lips. It is a matte lipstick and it is a pigmented rosy colour that is slightly darker than my Pillow Talk on me. The packaging is nice and looks like it's from a luxury brand.

SheGlam Expert Creamy Eyeliner - Brown

Spring is all about lightweight and natural make up. I bought this creamy eyeliner in brown when it was on a buy one get one sale. Despite the great deal price, the eyeliner is very creamy and super easy to apply. The colour brown is pigmented but still look very natural. Comparing it with my liquid eyeliner, this creamy eyeliner gives a softer look and do not smudge after a full day wear. 

SHEGLAM Butter Up Eyeshadow Stick-FROST BOSS

Besides the brown eyeliner, I also got myself this butter up eyeshadow in frost boss colour to highlight my eyes. The colour is light and shimmery. Easy to blend and glides smoothly on my skin. I like to apply it to the corner of my eyes and outline my under eye to make them look bigger. 

Basic Solid Tank Top

Basic tanks are definitely worth an investment. These solid tank tops are comfortable and cropped at a flattering length. The neckline is especially cute and accentuate my collarbones even more. I bought both black and white tops.

Rib-Knit Crop Tank Top

This tank top is similar to the basic solid tank top above except it is more fitted and less forgiving. 

2 Pack Lace-up front self adhesive bra set

These adhesive bra set is a must for those backless dresses in Spring and Summer! I love these set as it comes with both black and nude colours. The adhesive is strong but does not irritate my skin. The wing design not only looks cute but it also helps grab your side boobs. The tie front allows you to create cleavage and give out that extra oomph.

I absolutely love my purchase! They are all packaged nicely in its own zip-loc reusable plastic pouch. The shoes are also packaged with foam to keep its form during transit. You can find all the links in the headlines of this post. Let me know which item is your favourite!

I recently visited this 5-star luxury spa, Go Place on my birthday. A much-needed relaxation, child-free, self-care time for just me and Will. After sharing some of the highlights on my IG stories, I got a lot of questions asking about this experience. So, I thought I’d share my experience in detail here for those who are interested and answer all the common questions.

What’s there to do?

Relaxing!

If you’re familiar with Scandinavian Spa, you’d be no stranger to just lounging, relaxing and basically doing nothing. Although you don’t get the scenic view in comparison, Go Place offers a more luxurious indoor experience with more things to do. You can take a dip at their gender-specific hot tubs and jacuzzi, relax in the shared saunas and themed therapy rooms and even work out in the fitness room. Play a friendly game of billiards and board games, eat, enjoy free Wi-Fi and just doze off in various recliners and loungers. They have a huge selection of books for your reading pleasure that’s enough to kill a few hours.

We pretty much used all their facilities except for the fitness room. Working out just wasn’t aligned with my goal to relax! I did book an hour of deep tissue massage with an RMT in advance. The massage was amazing. Not only did it relieve all my tensed muscles from head to toe, the ambience and calming music just made the whole experience extra relaxing.

Will also decided on an impromptu 30-min massage with a masseuse. While the experience was decent, he did find his neck in an awkward position since the massage was done in one of their recliners in an open area, as opposed to being done on a massage table in a private room like my massage.

Food-wise, it was convenient that they have a dining area where we could order lunch and a snack or two. Orders were taken from a tablet device and brought to our table. Their menu includes mostly Asian dishes such as fried rice, noodles, sashimis, sushi rolls, pork bone soup, katsu udon, lamp racks, oysters, just to name a few. They have a great selection of drinks, including my favourite, bubble tea!

How much does it cost? What does the admission include?

It really depends on what you do there. Admission costs $63.95 per person that includes all access to the saunas, hot tubs, showers, fitness facility and therapy rooms. Lockers, towels and a two-piece Louis Vuitton-inspired spa wear are provided for free during your stay. Water is also available throughout the premises. 

Some extra charges could add to your total including facials, body treatments and massages if you wish to get one. Do note that RMT might be covered by your benefits coverage. For me, that’s a huge win, because I was able to claim my massage to my insurance. Make sure to find out from your insurance provider what’s covered and what needs to be submitted on your claims prior to booking.

Slippers are not included in your admission and are optional to purchase at $3. If you wish to complete the look, robes are also available to rent at $5 or $30 for purchase. Running shoes and socks are available to use if you wish to work out.

The cost for food is surprisingly fair and costs roughly the same as what you’d pay for the same thing at a restaurant. All the costs you incurred throughout your stay are added to your account by tapping your bracelet and billed at the end when you checkout.

Tax and a 12% gratuity are also added on top of your bill which their staff would tell you upfront and when you checkout. There's also a late charge of $15 if you wish to stay overnight or leave past 2 am.

Is it safe to visit during Covid?

We felt safe during our stay. We came early on a Thursday when there weren’t many guests. People were very spread out as the premise is huge so lots of room to keep a distance from each other. Proof of vaccinations are required before entry and all staff are wearing masks.

Guests are also encouraged to wear masks in open lounge areas and are only allowed to remove them in hot tubs and steam rooms. So, it is important that you take your own safety precautions. We took ours seriously and kept our distance from others throughout. Masks and sanitizers are also available at counters and in various areas.

Is it Clean?

As soon as we exited the escalator onto the 2nd floor, we were asked to remove our shoes. They are then stored inside the shoe lockers. I could not speak to the men’s room but the ladies’ change room was clean and tidy for the majority of the time. Throughout our stay, we could see staff vacuuming, cleaning and tidying up everywhere. I did have to ask them to refill the tissues and toilet papers after they ran out in the ladies’ bathrooms at one point as more people started to show up late afternoon.

Was it busy? When’s a good time to visit?

During the week is always the best time to go. We actually arrived before 10 in the morning and there were already a few guests. Will got the whole hot tub to himself and I also got to enjoy a private steam room. Since Go Place opens 24 hours, more guests show up after lunch towards later in the afternoon. I was also told by one of their staff that the place gets busier during the evenings.

Other things to know

As a luxury spa, they use top-of-the-line products like L’Occitane branded wash and lotions and Dyson hair dryers. I also love the fact that they have compartments beside each therapy room to store away your cell phones. These are some of the nice little details that add to the overall experience.

Many guests, like myself, come here and get pampered on birthdays. Their staff noticed my birthday when we checked in upon arrival and gave me a complimentary massage chair experience. And like in the card game, Monopoly Deal, if you tell the dining room staff that “It’s my birthday!”, you’d get a cupcake as well. I thought that was very sweet (see what I did there?).

Final thoughts. Would I visit again?

After experiencing Korean saunas and bathhouses, Go Place is the next level up if not more. Luxurious indoor wellness experience that is great for couples or a group of friends (I mean, board games are available for rent after all!)

All in all, we enjoyed our stay and experience at Go Place. I’d recommend anyone who enjoys getting pampered and relaxation therapies to give it a try. We'd definitely be back. Hope this post is helpful!

I can't believe 2022 is already here! Looking back, it feels like I didn't accomplish much the past year with the pandemic and Omicron variant still going strong. I know it might seem like we were never able to see light at the end of the tunnel. But on a positive note, there was still a lot to be thankful for. I was able to see my friends and family a lot more in 2021 compared to the previous year. I was able to take Justice out more often for some basic childhood activities after the lockdown was over. I got to celebrate my grandmother's 94th birthday when dine-in was allowed. Despite being a small, intimate celebration, she was happy she could see the people she cared for. And seeing her happy is one of my greatest joys.

I've returned to work in Fall from my maternity leave. There was a lot of uncertainty returning to work but thankfully, the transition back to work was relatively smooth and manageable. I'm lucky that Will was able to help out and look after Justice in the morning while I work. I also got accepted to a new job just before the holidays. It was something I wanted to pursue before I had Justice and now I have a second chance. I'm most excited about the new year because now I have a new job to look forward to.

Sales from my Etsy shop hit an all-time high. 2021 was the best year yet since launch. And I'm super thankful for all your support!

We made it to the end of this crumbly year! 2020 definitely didn’t turn out the way we all hoped. This was the year that we realized what really matters and what we took for granted. The highlight for me is definitely the arrival of our child, Justice! I’m so thankful to have him in my life and made 2020 a special one.

Looking back this past year, there were so many hidden positives:

• Welcoming Justice
• A safe and smooth delivery during the peak time of a pandemic
• Extra time spent together as a family of 3
• More time at home made me focus on how to become a better parent
• Saved extra money since no travelling plans and no entertainment to spend on
• The love and support I had for my side hustle
• Opportunities to work with some amazing brands and collaborations 

I’m very blessed to have my family and friends and gave me the support when I needed. I hope despite this challenging year, you were able to find little things to be thankful for.

Happy New Year! I hope 2019 was everything that you wanted and dreamed of and I also hope that 2020 is better than all your previous years! Looking back the past decade (can you believe that a decade has passed?!), I've grown so much in person and have achieved so much. So I really wanted to do a recap of this past decade with today's post.

2010

I started the decade by landing a job in an advertising agency. The competition was tough in the design world and every designer dreamed of working at an advertising agency downtown. So the opportunity was very much coveted among my peers. I had “friends” who I rarely talked to approaching me on Facebook and asked me to review and give feedback to their portfolios. It was a digital producer position, a role that I was unfamiliar with and had no experience for. I didn’t want to give credit to my luck though. I worked hard in networking, building my portfolio, website and resume. I took it as a deserving reward from my perseverance and commitment.

2011

The agency lost one of their major clients and so the entire team working on that account was laid off. And I was one of them. It was short but definitely a memorable experience. I had learned that I really hated commuting downtown to the city every morning and that the agency life was not as glamourous as it seemed. So I wanted my next job to be more stable and corporate with a shorter commute. I ended up getting a designer job in a bank working in Marketing and started a side hustle with a colleague doing custom baked goods.

2012

Travelled to China and Taiwan with my family in May. Then I went on a trip to New York with some friends via Megabus. Lesson learned that year: Never take the Megabus to New York again.

2013

Went on an all-inclusive trip to Cuba with my family for the first time. Started playing more badminton. And met the love of my life through numerous rounds of friendly games. Highest record was playing 8 hours straight. Oh the energy!

2014

Flew back to my hometown, Hong Kong to celebrate my grandmother’s birthday milestone and reunited with my extended families. My grandmother passed away a few months later. It was a tough time for our family.

2015

I bought a house with Will and went to Punta Cana together. Career-wise, I transitioned to a digital marketing role with a focus on content creation.

Started an annual tradition of our #HosGoGlobal trip with the extended family in honour of our grandmother. Our first destination was to the Mediterranean. Later that year, Will proposed in our new home!

2016

Best Year Ever! This was the year when we tied the knot as Mr. and Mrs. Although, I didn’t share many details of our wedding on the blog here but it was a day to remember. Planning a wedding was a LOT of work. Thankfully, there won’t be a second time. LOL!

Went on our Honeymoon to Japan a month later. Visited Tokyo and boarded on a cruise to Hokkaido then took the train to visit Osaka and Kyoto.

2017

This year was mostly about travelling as well. Flew to Banff, Alberta early in the year and hit the slopes with Will together. I was very thankful that I actually survived the cold and the Rockies. Later the year, we travelled 22 hours across the planet to Australia and New Zealand. This was our longest flight yet! We visited Sydney and tried our first scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef.

2018

Was definitely an interesting year for me. Lots of ups and downs. I got promoted to a senior at work but felt that my passion was elsewhere. So I diverted my focus to creating content for the blog and started my Etsy shop selling digital products.

Will started a new job and couldn’t take any days off, so we only did a road trip together to Montreal this year.

This was also my strongest year in terms of achieving my physical goals. I accomplished a personal milestone by finishing my first 10K run and also a 50 km bicycle charity ride.

Things then hit a wild turn when I fell down the stairs at a restaurant which resulted in a mild concussion. But it gave me a reason to finally do a digital detox and rest. After recovery, I spent the last bit of summer in Muskoka but fell out of an ATV in the woods. I thought I broke my leg and got sent to the hospital for the second time. Lesson learned this year: always wrap myself in a bubble wrap.

Later the year, I still travelled (of course) to Spain and Italy (post still to come!) and then flew back to Hong Kong for a wedding with a side trip to Seoul, Korea.

2019

Started mediocre but had gotten better towards the end as we found out that we are expecting our first baby! YES. You read that right! Our baby will arrive in Spring 2020. So, we quickly went on a babymoon to Europe (post to come!) as soon as I passed the 3-month mark and am now spending the rest of my pregnancy preparing for our little one and motherhood.

Thank you so much for all the support you had given me throughout this whole journey. I can’t wait to see what 2020 and the new decade have in store for us! Have a happy New Year!
